CRYSTALS..I have hundreds of them! I'm
organizing my collection. I sell them at a hobby
price of $2 each for non ham freqs and $4 for ham
freqs. (I have sold about a dozen so far)

I BUY AND SELL XTALS
information. I now have some limited stocks of
QRP transmitting crystals. $3 each.

New Schottky diodes, varistor diodes and torroids
including the white ones for stable VFOs.

I have limited supplies of FETs, RF transistors, old germanium
transistors, SCRs, Full Wave Bridges, Rectifiers, tubes,
resistors, capacitors, coils, toroid cores, solder, and other stuff.

If you need a part or two for a building project or repair I can
maybe help you. I sell lower prices than retail. I can sell used
recycled but tested parts at 1/2 the retail price.
NEW OLDER
PARTS are about 80 or 90 percent retail price. I do small wee
orders..THAT IS WHEN IT PAYS OFF FOR YOU. I buy in bulk and
sometimes I buy parts (new old stock) at garage sales and flea
markets.

I BUY broken radio gear and broken
electronics
. Sometimes I can repair it and get it
going and other times it is just not worth it. I can
then test and sell off the sub assemblies as spare
parts units and sub assemblies to get other radios
going. Keeps me busy, occupied and I can buy a
some parts or the odd piece of gear. BASICALLY
NON PROFIT retirement job for me.

Enamelled Wire (I have miles of it). Unfortunately it is a finer
guage than many projects but for short lengths to try building a
project-- I can supply at next to nothing cost.
On the BENCH.. a bit of heaven for me! Surrounded by all those wires, and
test instruments. I have spent a good deal of my life trying to understand all
these things.! I did not seem to have the type of thinking necessary to do
well at this but I have developed over the years to where I am reasonably
proficient at it. I graduated the Electronic Engineering Technician program
at Algonquin College in Ottawa, Ontario.
Its important to keep your mind and body active. My main hobby is Amateur
Radio. It is great..especially in the winter months!
These WEB PAGES are my
hobby too! I have spent hundreds (maybe thousands of hours on them now
).
Keeps the mind sharp and thinking. The spell check helps keep me on the
straight and narrow! I can give you TIPS on how to make HAM RADIO and or
Shortwave Listening (we all get started by listening first) YOUR HOBBY. I do
this for FREE of course. It is in our AMATEUR RADIO CODE of honour.

HEY!! I've caught myself slipping into some bad spelling
over the hundreds of hours that I've spent working on these pages!!!

-- Warmer months..I enjoy the great outdoors and I still play ham radio too.

Town". I moved here in 2005. NO REGRETS EITHER!! LOTS OF
FRESH AIR up here! I'm from Ottawa. Ottawa is generally a
couple of degrees warmer (on average) (but not always) so not
much difference to me. Snowfalls/accumulation  similar.
I do have some PARTS RADIOS such as FT301, TS820, HR10B, DX160
Argonaut 505-509 spares,many generic ICs from the 70s, 80s,
varistors, schottky diodes (a fair selection of these New Old stock,
and some other units kicking around. I have some dual gate
mosfets and JFETS, schottky diodes, germanium diodes ect ect.
IF you need a part or two to fix or build something..get in contact
with me Earl VE3AB (ve3ab at personainternet.com) or 705-848-9486.

A few hams have sent me things to work on through the mail. It is
economical for certain small items such as circuit boards and non
bulky items.

I FIX THE ODD ITEM HERE AND THERE AND SELL THE ODD PART
HERE AND THERE TO PAY FOR THIS RATHER LARGE WEB SITE. I buy
parts and parts units and junker radios too! These WINTER
PROJECTS keep me away from the winter blues. I never run out of
projects.
Here my father is out in Clayton Lake trying to fetch his snagged lure. This
picture was taken 31 May 1942. Notice all the stumps!
Most of these stumps are all gone now but I remember well fishing amongst
them myself in the 1970s. I caught my first real fish..a Northern Pike around
the floating bridge which is between Clayton Lake and Taylor lake on the
river. See picture on this page.

My small parts HOBBY ("Business")

ONE or TWO parts in an envelope is my
specialty. --
I cannot do big orders like the
BIG BOYS!!!  I cannot compete   ** but I can
complete***!!!!

My goal is to make a few bucks here and
there to pay for this web page and buy a few
modest ham radio toys the odd time!
Test Equipment in my shop: Variac (to bring the voltages up
slowly on older equipment), 100mhz oscilloscope, HP
Spectrum Analyser, Wavetek Sweep Generator, TUBE TESTER,
Variable power supplies, CRYSTAL TESTERS. I am building up a
real nice test facility. JUST BOUGHT AN ESR TESTER FOR
CAPACITORS (December 2009).

o I work on older gear from the 1950s to mid nineties.
o I ONLY HAVE PARTS and expertise with this older stuff mainly
but there are exceptions. Call me at 705-848-9486.
JUNKED RADIOS..I buy them..try to fix
them..or part them out. I have a fair number
of them now. Hams have been calling me for
parts or a bit of help to fix a rig or power
supply. European hams have asked me for
parts lately and I sold a circuit board for $11 (
a crystal osc board ft301) to a fellow
overseas. GLAD TO BE OF SERVICE. GIVES
ME ANOTHER REASON for keeping all this
old stuff around.
I often work for free but I do take the odd bit
of renumeration (small amount). I make a few
dollars from selling stuff on ebay and over
the web through this site. I usually end up
spending it on ham gear!!! I have older
argonaut parts, FT301 parts,HW7 parts and
some other radio parts from the 60s, 70s and
80s.
Finnigan is the real brains in the operation! When we are faced with some real
difficult decisions..we turn to Finnigan! He does seem to be very intelligent even
though he often doesn't realize his own limitations..(just like we humans!!??)

Dachshunds are high spirited dogs. They love to hunt, dig and play. You
almost have to protect them against their own nature!! Finnigan had to have
an operation on his neck (the vertebrae). We took him to Guelph, Ontario.
It was a $4,000 operation. He is fine now but we keep him strictly from
jumping up on things (which he likes to do) and digging and real strenuous
exercise and we have him on a strict diet. He loves to eat!

FOR WHAT I HAVE DONE FOR PEOPLE (mainly other
ham operators) in the past 3 years

NO CHARGES (zero my friends!) for
short consultations, emails, file (pdf)
transfers (stuff like that).
ALMOST EVERY DAY NOW I get an
email from someone who is just
getting started or is learning how to
fix a radio. I got my start from ham
radio people who gave me free
advice and encouragement.
I have been working on this web site since 2005. It costs
me $15 per month. I pay for it through the sales of
electronic components (I sell a few here and there) and
out of my own pocket. It is a HOBBY WEB SITE & activity.
Shown above left is a "variac". Very useful. I control the speed
of my dremel tool and hand grinder with it. For electronics: I
slowly bring the voltage up on equipment to '
condition it' and
make sure not to damage it. The old capacitors in older
equipment needs to be brought up to full voltage..S L O W L Y.
Its a good thing to run old equipment every once and a while to
ensure the "paste" in the capacitors does not dry out. I think it
must be the heat generated when the equipment operates that
keeps the paste in the capacitors good. SO DO YOUR OLD
GEAR A FAVOUR AND PUT IT ON THE AIR OR TURN IT ON
EVERY ONCE AND AWHILE!!!

I test/replace and work on tube equipment and older solid state
gear. Stuff I am familiar with and have parts for.
My $10 per hour shop rate for service and my low prices for
parts and tubes (hobby rates) allow people to service old
sentimental pieces of electronics that might otherwise just
gather dust on the shelf.

NOVEMBER 14, 2009. Weather was
mild enough that no gloves were
required this day to go fishing. I
managed to catch the biggest fish I
ever caught (by far), A 20 lb Northern
Pike. I'm going to have to buy a
bigger landing net for next year!

I'm from Ottawa area originally and I
have adapted to the Northeast now
and have learned to fish up here.

Lakes are deeper and colder and
generally there are less weed beds
and more rock and drop offs.
Im holding him (or her?) up by a
weigh scale. Just at the 20 lb mark.
I don't act as a fishing guide because the insurance for my truck and the liability insurance costs are too
great.
This being said, I have taken a few fellows out fishing who were in town for a few days and had no
boat or motor.
I have them sign a liability waiver if they are in the my boat. I was thankful to have Glenn
from Waterloo this day I caught the big pike. He snapped movies and pics with his digital camera and he
caught a 4.5 lb pike to boot. We both really enjoyed the outings.
The fish was almost too large for my NET!
NICE GOING GLENN and I really enjoyed having your company those two days!
If you need a "real"
professional fishing guide for the Elliot Lake area or tackle, I would say get in contact with the Elliot Lake
Trading Post. I have gotten some real good tips on tackle and places to fish and they know the guides.

I have plenty of TORROID CORES (including some White Cores for high stablility
VFOs); Ferrite Cores. I have plenty of inductors, qrp crystals and enamelled
wire and other stuff. Just send me off an email with what you need.

I sell a few at a time of components. I AM NOT A BIG DISTRIBUTOR. FOR larger
orders I would recommend going to the QRP ARCI site and look up QRP Parts
distributors. Hendricks and Dans Small Parts are in this category.

I, in fact, buy my new parts from Dans and Hendricks and suppliers such as
these. I also take donations and buy at flea markets and estate sales   AND I
have received DONATIONS of junk box parts.
I do have some ODDBALL parts
(especially ICs and transistors..and if you need something that is not readily
available I might happen to have it.

I sell the parts at a small mark up. I can send one or
two or a few parts out in a padded envelope if you are
building or repairing something and need a few pieces.
Postage is typically only $2.00 this way for small parts.

My phone nr is 705-848-9486 or you can email me at
ve3ab(at) personainternet.com and I'd be pleased to
help.

I do not have pop up ads or any other
kind of commercial Tom- Foolery on
my site.

I find MORE AND MORE advertising on
the web. It used to be fun and
informative but it is getting too god
dam commercial.
This site is a YAHOO site built using
Yahoo Site Builder. Was easy to use.
NO IAM NOT ADVERTISING ..JUST
STATING A FACT.
I do sell on ebay world wide. I
export ham radio parts mainly. 100
percent rating so far. About 70
sales so far.

On ebay..I buy in bulk because the
parts I need cost too much
individually. I sell my over stock
parts (
see this page for LIST of my
overstocked parts)
Many thanks again Earl. You are far
more helpful than the
technical specialist at NTE! I will let you
know how it turns
out. It will take a while because I will get
some help from a
fellow amateur in Ottawa who is a
retired electrical engineer.
I am not skilled at desoldering on a
crowded circuit board.

Al the best in 2010 Earl.

Robert
---> my note: Big companies may or
may not be helpful. When it comes to a
$3 transistor ..often they dont have the
time or resources. I used to work in
electronic components and I am now
retired so I can spend a few extra
minutes to help.
(I dont charge for

MY MAIN hobby is Amateur Radio and Electronics. I cannot
classify this as a "business" because I spend more than I make

HOBBY !! bottom line-  0!
I sell some radio parts and the odd time someone sends me
some circuit boards or small electronics devices to fix for them.
My shop rate is only $10 per hour! I took early retirement from a
job in Ottawa. This keeps my mind occupied and is actually a
scale model of what I used to do on the job..only I get to do
things the way they should be done!
