ELLIOT LAKE (the jewel in the wilderness)..my second page of photos
Hey Mr. Bear!! I called out and he looked at me for the photo. This is on Axmith Drive.
Behind this house it is bush. The bears are common and you will likely spot a few in the
city every year. So far..Ive heard of no confrontations happening with people in town
here. In other parts of Northern Ontario, I have heard of some rogue bears causing
serioius problems. The situation is pretty closely monitored by the authorities.
After calling out to the bear and getting his attention; he now strolls away. Most of the
time..bears will avoid humans. There are exceptions..so .. I purchased a spray can of
Bear Spray this year. When I'm in the bush; I like to have it just in case.
Now the bear is sniffing some of the garbage cans. It is garbage day. I was out in the
morning heading for Lake Lauzon to do some fishing and working on my camp.
Pictured below is a small lake accessible by water from Lake Lauzon. Elliot Lake and
Blind River area have many many lakes. The scenery is always very nice. The waters are
clean and clear and offer the outdoors person lots of recreational opportunities.
This picture was taken near Lauzon Beach in Algoma Mills, Lake Lauzon. There are quite
a few cottages on Lake Lauzon and the surrounding lakes. I have a property near this
location.
Here is one of the smaller cottages on Lake Lauzon. There are some real big cottages
and houses as well. This whole area is being touted as Ontarios new Cottage Country.
Development is ongoing and the cottage lot properties north of Elliot Lake have being
selling very well. Most of the lots being sold are "northern sized lots" of 1.5 acre and
greater.
MY DOG FINNIGAN is out for a
winter walk near the old Panel
Mine Road
north of Town. The mines have
all been de- commissioned. The
old sites are still well monitored.
There are
some filtration units near the
tailings dams.
Many of the houses in Elliot
Lake have received renovations
and face-lifts. It is quite common
for retired people to move here
and spend some money to put
new siding on the house or
add a garage or outbuilding.
I built a large shed this year
for my 2 ATVs.
There are lots of people who
have ATVs and snowmobiles up
here.
You can legally drive an ATV in
town in order to access the trail
system. It is common to see and
hear ATVs going down the
streets. ATVs are not allowed in
the downtown core however.
You can't ride into town on one
to do your grocery shopping.
You can; however; ride your
handicapped scooter to do
some shopping.
In my own particular case. I can
drive about 3 blocks and then
I'm on the trail system.
The trail system winds away
and back towards town and
covers an area of about 360 kms
long.
For more specific information
and maps of the
ATV/Snowmobile trails..go to my
third page and choose Elliot
Lake LINK and from there you
can surf to the Elliot Lake ATV
club site.
I took these pictures while
heading out fishing. You don't
have to go far to get to a public
boat launch.
Elliot Lake, Dunlop Lake, Esten
Lake, McCarthy Lake, Quirke
Lake are all fairly good sized
lakes that offer decent fishing.
The Dunlop Lake Bass fishing
tournament was held for the first
time this past summer. It was a
huge success.
If you want better fishing where
there is less pressure; then
head north of town. The bush
roads lead to some pretty good
fishing spots.
Lake Huron isn't all that far
either. (About 1/2 hour drive) to
the North Shore Yacht Club
where you can launch into
Serpent Harbour.
A rather HUGE Rainbow trout
was caught on the north shore
of Lake Huron.
(towards Sudbury direction). I
think it was over 40 lbs.
A very popular fishing
destination on the North Shore
is the town of Spanish.
My dog Finnigan resting in the sun
with one of his toys that he likes to
play with.

I managed to cut a small path through the wooded
area in order to launch and store my boat at my
property. Up here, all the lakes have a 66 ft crown
land strip around them. You can apply to purchase
this strip of land. It costs about $1,000.00 BUT..as
I'm finding out..it seems to take a long time to
process these requests. Part of this is due to the
fact that there are other people doing the same
process. Waterfront properties are popular.
There are lots of lakes and quite a bit of crown land
up here. IF you shop around; you can get a
waterfront lot for less than $20,000.00 but it may not
have good road access. Some lots are sold as
water access. Mine was sold to me that way. You
can only get in by road during good dry conditions.
The good news is that the lots are BIG northern
sized lots. My lot is close to 3 acres.
If you wish to learn more and get some pointers..I
can probably give you some real useful tips and
pointers and information. See my Consulting page
for details.
The rugged hill pictured below is north of Town. I took this
shot while touring in the fall on the deer trail. Nice Scenery!
