Clayton Lake, Taylor Lake and the Old Floating Bridge.
Here are some pictures I have of this interesting area. I have many
fond memories of this area myself.
May 31, 1942 near the old floating bridge. My father, John Andrews, of Bells Corners farm area, tries to retrieve a lure or fish from
the stumpy waters. These lakes were flooded and there were thousands of stumps and logs in the waters right up until the 1990s.
Now they are for the most part gone but you can still see places where the stumps are still prevalent.
I think this is Doug Gamble with my father John Andrews back sometime in the early fifties or late forties. THIS IS THE ACTUAL OLD FLOATING BRIDGE
WHEN IT STILL WAS A GOING CONCERN!! I used to fish this area back in the mid sixties. Part of the floating bridge (the part near the far shore from
the picture below) was still standing (though rough shape). YOu could still walk on parts of it. Good structure for fish. There was no wild rice either.
Just lots of stumps and logs and dead heads. Plenty of small panfish to be caught. You could easily catch a hundred in a day if you wanted to. Some
decent pike and bass fishing too. Later they put Walleye into Clayton Lake.
Around 1965 some time and near the floating bridge. My Uncle George and Aunt June used to fish this area and I went with
them from time to time. We rented a boat from Gordie Simms at this location.
A scan from the Almonte Gazette.
THIS PAGE IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION. I will be adding text and more pictures as time
goes on. If you have pictures of this area in Lanark County; I would be interested in
hearing from you. I can post them on this/these pages for interests sake.
