The police arrived to make sure the Bear was behaving
himself. Actually ..this bear seemed to me very passive. He
basically acted as if I wasn't even there. He stopped beside
the two small doors of the white house in this picture. He
sniffed the doors then continued on.
May 4th 2007. A beautiful spring evening and a fairly large Black Bear wanders into my neighbours front yard and I go
grab my camera. I went up to him within about 25 to 30 yards. He looked at me and kept strolling. I backed off a bit and
snapped some more pictures. After he disappeared over the hill and the big rock he came back onto our street again
about 20 minutes later. The police cars arrived to make sure he wasn't going to make any trouble. The police had
"bangers" also known as bear bangers. They make a loud firecracker noise to scare off the bears. They didnt have to use
them.

This house with the new light brown siding is an
example of a renovated home up here in Elliot Lake.
It is across the street from me on Ferguson Rd and is
for sale now..(Jan 2008). The price is rather steep..up
around $200K (which is steep for up here) but..you
will notice in some of my pictures here; the
foundation has been dug up and a heavy membrane
has been set along side the basement wall.
The drainage around the home was repaired and/or
replaced and a good grade of backfill material was
trucked in.
I spoke to one contractor about this type of
foundation work and it costs about $100 per foot to
do.
Up the same side of the street another house was
renovated in the same manner.
That may be considered the down side of houses in
Elliot lake. The houses are still fairly inexpensive
and are not all that old (typically 50 years old or so)
but they sometimes need a bit of attention to
drainage. Notice the rock in the background where
the bear is visible. You can actually see a bit of
ground water seeping out of the rock from time to
time.
