BOAT RENTALS/Launches in the Elliot Lake District

In Spanish, Vances Marina provides boat launch and rents boats and
sells bait. A boat launch is available too.
Spanish and the Spanish River is a very popular place to fish.
According to the fishing maps
Ive seen..it is one of the few places around this area where you can
catch a Large Mouth Bass.
Spanish River looks to be excellent for Large Mouth because it is
relatively shallow with plenty of weedy and stumpy areas. It looks like it
might be good for Musky..BUT I have yet to verify that and Ive only
fished there one time and that was when bass and musky season was
closed. I was told several times this year by various fellows in various
towns that the walleye fishing in Spanish this year (2007) was pretty
good. It was fairly good last year as well I was told.

Dunlop Lake Lodge (north of town) and Mount Lake (furthur north) also
rents boats.

In Algoma Mills (Lake Lauzon Resort) boat rental and cottage/camp
rental is available. Boat Launch available in Lake Huron near the
mouth of Lauzon Creek. Spring time..is smelt run. Note: I have not tried
this area..but I think when the smelt are running..other game fish
would tend to follow them.
Fall the salmon run is on Lauzon Creek.

Sprague area (hiway 17/Serpent River)..There is a boatlaunch open to
the public. It is to the left in the fork in the road where the North
Channel Yacht Club is . See picture lower left of this page.
KOA campground may let you launch there on Serpent River.

Panel Mine Road..Quirke Lake Boat Launch. Also a couple of places to
launch on the Serpent River before it goes into Quirke.

Depot Lake..hwy 108 popular boat launch
Esten Lake (Esten Road area near town..public boat launch
McCarthy Lake..2 boat launches..note: the road is a little rough but a
truck can handle it no probs.

OTHER NOTES

There are many lodges such as Ten Mile Lodge, Frontier Lodge and
others. Some offer fly out fishing trips. Ten mile Lodge has guide
service. It is close to some small walk in trout ponds/lakes.

If you get a fishing map you will see all the lakes and the fish species
are shown on the map.
I tend to find that the markings on the fishing maps ..ie when there is a
"P" on the map (for Pike) or B for Bass..its like x marks the spot.
Try fishing there. It is a good general indicator of a good fishing area.
May not always be true but it is a good starting point. Try looking for
structure, weed beds, and transitions. Lakes up here are deep and
rocky. When there is a transition into a shallow bay with weeds and
stumps and rocks (structure) ..that is likely a good spot to try. Just
away where it drops off deeper might be good as well for deeper
dwelling fish.

NOTE: I have found through my travels that the maps don't always tell
the full story. McCarthy Lake is not really a good lake for Walleye
anymore; even though the map says it has walleye. The Pike seem to
have taken over somewhat. One old timer I spoke to not long ago told
me he used to catch a walleye every cast in McCarthy. Well now..they
arent that common at all.

the dark blue areas indicate Musky areas.

The rivers & creek  to the east of the BLIND RIVER (Blind River where it flows into Lake Huron);  are
Lauzon Creek at Algoma Mills (good Boat Launch there). The Serpent River (boat launching available at the Yacht Club near Sprague and furthur east is Spanish
River (boat launch available there too (river mouth near Lake Huron).

To the west of Blind River is the Mississagi River and Iron Bridge and the Little White River (a bit to the North).

This knuckle ball jig with a small plastic craw worked real well that day on Clayton
Lake (near Ottawa) for Crappies. I was actually fishing for Walleye at the time.
I think it might be good as well for small mouth bass.
I only have a small boat and 2 hp
gas engine.

Good enough for some casual
fishing.

If you bring your boat and motor
and I go along as guide..my rate
goes down to $8.00 per hour.

Hey..thats less than minimum
wage!! Its fishing however..and a
nice outing for myself.
INSURANCE AND LIABILITY
CONSIDERATIONS

The way things are today; we all
have to cover our (you know what).

If I go fishing with you and we use
my boat and motor; I will have you
sign a WAIVER OF LIABILITY.
LINK HERE TO THE WAIVER
FORM.

Also..because I have no commercial
insurance on my truck; I will have to
meet you at the boat launch. I will
not be transporting you in my truck.

Now you know why I call it.."Earls
NO FRILLS FISHING GUIDE
SERVICE!!".

Seriously though..most boat
launches are easy to get to around
the cottage lot lakes and a good
enjoyable days fishing can be had
with a small boat and a simple
approach.

If we use your boat and motor
ect..no waiver will be necessary.
I was fishing for walleye with this 1/2 craw plastic body and the orange knuckle
ball jig. It was really doing well for crappie that day. Lots of action. I was drift
fishing near the boat. No scent was used either. I didnt have any with me.
If you want to try some remote areas and/or fly fishing in some of the creeks and rivers north of town..I have done some of that as well. I know
a few spots now.
If we walk the shores and use waders ect.. it might be good to have a guide around. I have a couple of cans of bear spray as well. I have
never had any bear encounters of the close kind..but if you are catching fish and there is a scent and you are in a remote area..the bears may
come around to check things out.  I may go out and buy some "bear bangers' as well for a trip north of town.

As I said to one of my customers as I changed out of my hip waders and into my running shoes...when  he asked me.." YOU AREN'T GOING
TO TRY AND OUT RUN THAT BEAR ARE YOU!!??"  I told him NO! _--I'm just going to try and outrun you!!
