Earls Parts for older solid state rigs and good tested USED PULLS of circuit cards
and/or parts for transceivers. email me ve3ab@rac.ca and I can quote you prices --
this is a low cost service for hams or potential hams and tinkerers in
electronics..hobby stuff. (( for me it is a retirement activity that helps pay for the web
pages and I can buy a few shop supplies with the small amounts of cash I get.

I can't really qualify this as a business because I'm always spending more than I
make..It is just an interest absorbing activity that I enjoy doing! 73 Earl VE3AB

OLD 2 meter radios..such as the ones pictured...I do have some. I pick
them up at flea markets. Usually ..they are crippled. The IC290 shown had
a bad rotary encoder. I fixed it up with a mechanical encoder..(see my
article on this fix) and it works now. I have 2 of these old rigs. I also have
IC22 parts rigs and some crystals for them.
note: I just purchased another IC22 for $10 at flea market and it works
and has about 15 channels crystalized. So email me..ve3ab@rac.ca if you
need a crystal or two or three ect......
CBs..I have about 10 junkers including a few ssb radios..I can supply
parts or maybe even fix your cb.
KENWOOD TS 780 DUAL BAND 2 METER 440 MHZ
-- this rig developed a bad logic (control board) and readout. Works fine other wise..RF wise. I have had one fellow write me and he bought the RF Unit board nr
X44-1470-00. I priced this as follows: the ebay seller listed his for $55. I sold mine for $35. I operate out of my basement shop and have low overhead and I dont have
an ebay store either..so I try and keep my prices lower and reasonable.
HERE IS A PAGE FOR THE KENWOOD TS780 SHOWING SOME OF THE PARTS AND
SUBASSEMBLIES I AM PARTING OUT.

FT301-- I have several 4 junker rigs and two good working one.  I have also gathered parts like the rare hard to get Toshiba Voltage regulator chip used in both the
FP301 power supply and on one of the boards on the FT301 as well. ---> I also fix boards for you..test boards for you. THE WHOLE RIG IS TOO BIG TO SHIP..BUT..THE
BOARDS can be sent in the mail fairly economically..and people have sent me a box of the boards to trouble shoot and return to them.
note: unfortuately...my stock of crystals for this radio is almost depleted. Iam seeking a supplier of replacement crystals. (I HAVE HAD QUITE A FEW REQUESTS FOR
CRYSTALS. (I sent for a quote to ICM before xmas..but the girl there couldn't seem to help me__ I will try others soon in new year 2012).

TEN TEC SCOUT/ARGO 556 -- (the scrapped one is an argo 556) many parts are common. I have sold Noise Blanker board, S meter, and modules to people who were
doing repairs on their Scouts..but I have quite a few other parts. The rig was working OK when I scrapped it..but the PTO was seizing up and was unstable as well.
Modules are expensive to buy for it. (see ebay)...I sold all my modules for about $35 to $40 each. ..quite a few parts still left over.

HR10B. I have one good one and one junker that has a bad front panel  and rust on bottom plate/chasis (some)for parts.

HW7 a couple of bad condition front panel junkers for parts

HW16 AND HG10 VFO PARTS

Atlas 210x I have one good one and one that was missing the
dial drum and had a bad final PA transistor section. Iam parting this ATLAS 210X out. I have plenty of relays (OMRON) that I bought on ebay for this radio.

ICOM IC720 I have some parts left. I have parted it out some.

Ten Tec Argonaut 509. One parts unit and I have a good
inventory of spare parts that I have bought for this series.

TEN TEC  PM2 SIMPLE DC QRP TRANSCIEVER (CW) FROM THE 70s.  One junker I bought at a flea market. (bad case) I have helped one fellow out already who needed a
core for a slug tuned coil---
remember with me..I take the time to do even the SMALLEST WEE ORDER....THATS MY THING!! 73 EARL VE3AB

DX160 radio shack swl. I have some parts from an old parts radio.

IC22s several junkers WITH crystals and I can test the crystals as well... and a few similar rigs..Clegg Wilson Hand Held ..old relics from the hey days of 2 meter FM
(70's/80s)
I have some crystals for common repeater/simplex freqs plus some odd ball crystals..I keep around..email ..maybe I can help you out!
ACTUALLY..there are some good japanese transistors from the 1970s on the older 2 meter radios like the IC22. I can pull these transistors and test and sell them for
less than the scalpers on ebay do (by a significant amount sometimes).

Cushcraft 2 meter beam elements and boom to element clamps
they hold the aluminum rod element to boom with a bolt and a 2 formed aluminum pieces..I have about 12 spares for fixing.

WORLD WAR 2 RADIO BC348AQ...I have a radio I can part out..with working ac supply. or I will sell the radio outright! It works fine except BFO not functioning. Good for
listening to AM! - covers upper AM BCB and up to a little over 18 mc

TUBES...I have about 500 tubes and tube tester and can help you out..likely..with some tubes at a most reasonable price.

I also have quite a few common transistors and fets and logic
chips for rigs from the late 60s, 70s and 80s (my specialty
this page and this web site: www.hamelectronics.com is just being developed March and April --
2011.. its taking a bit longer than I thought to get it going..but Iam working on it.

click here for index page of this site
MY old web site was www.earlandrews.com. I still own this DOMAIN NAME
along with another DOMAIN NAME I have purchased: www.sparetime.biz.

My pages are also reflected with the old domain name if you were to search
for them ..but from now on..I will be posting all new pages to
www.ham
electronicsmagazine.com
I can repair ATLAS 210X. I have one good working atlas 210x and can plug in boards to
trouble shoot.

THE ONLY PARTS I DONT HAVE FOR THESE RADIOS (with exception of the QRP Final
transistors) are the 100 WATT FINAL AMPLIFIER TRANSISTORS. I don't have any stocks
of these larger signal transistors. I want to buy some reasonable if I can get them but
they tend to be held onto or snapped up rather quickly.

The ATLAS 210X ..is one rig that can be sent in the mail..rather economically to repair.
This is is in CANADA ONLY. When you cross the border to USA sometimes the
government will slap on taxes and inspection fees so..I do not recommend sending
large items across the border because of this. Circuit cards and small things like that
are generally ok.

I STILL SELL PARTS AND DO THE ODD REPAIR..BUT NOW..IAM WRITING THIS MAGAZINE
MORE THAN I AM SELLING PARTS OR WORKING ON OTHER PEOPLES GEAR.

BECAUSE OF THE BORDER TAXES AND POLICIES and because the demand is rather
LOW for my parts .
.... I have decided to try writing a ham radio magazine..
ham
electronicsmagazine.com--- I like writing and working on the web and producing
web pages..and am willing to learn and follow instructions. SO MY WEB PAGES ARE
HERE for your use. email me ve3ab@personainternet.com and I will  work for a low
price in an effort to learn and provide services. In Particular: to other ham radio
operators WORLD WIDE.

THIS ELECTRONIC MAGAZINE --- WILL WORK FOR YOU --->>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

ve3ab@personainternet.com   or ve3ab@rac.ca  I'd be pleased to speak with you.

BY PHONE..I can do that too..just send me an email and I can pass along my number.
I have a V.O.I.P. SYSTEM here using high speed internet connection.

This WEBPAGE uses the YAHOO SMALL BUSINESS SERVER in California. I have been
with YAHOO small business since 2005 when I started www.earlandrews.com

earlandrews.com will be phased out by about june 2011. There are still many
interesting articles available on that web site but I am moving the articles and
re-writing them and better organizing them and presenting them here on this web
site.
I took early retirement from a job in government with NATO PARTS
SUPPLY (in electronics)
..I do this as a continuation of what I did before
as a hobby and brain activity to keep me sharp and focused on some-
thing other than my-self..also  occupied..mainly..but it shows some
promise to generate a small amount of supplementary income..and
could become a part time home business-- that combined with
www.ham
electronicsmagazine.com and web design/pages/advertising.
I BUY BASKET CASE RADIOS..ALSO FIXER UPPERS and Id like to
buy radio parts for repairing radios (particulary from the 1970s and
early to mid8 0s)..discrete semiconductors and ICs

I PAY CASH..(or PAY PAL on internet)..I work on the WEB mainly. --
I do travel Elliot Lake to Ottawa route and go to a couple of ham
radio flea markets annually (near Ottawa) and I can go to the Soo
as well (Soo Michigan/Ontario)..every once and awhile.
REFERENCES and Services I offer to other hams at my
LOW LOW home based price of $10 per hour.
CLICK HERE FOR REFERENCES AND MORE --->> I can
trouble-shoot and repair certain electonic assemblies at
this price..mostly the ones with simpler layouts that can
be sent by mail. TIME CONSUMING mundane repairs...I
can do....!!!!! in my spare time..............
MAIL ORDER REPAIRS
<<<ve3ab@rac.ca  (email)>>>>
CIRCUIT CARDS with discrete components from the 70s and 80s are what I
work on and have parts for.
I do have about 400 tubes..but tube gear is (at
times) to heavy to ship anywhere economically especially to Canada.
plug in card FT301..I also have atlas
210x and older argonauts and I have
the older ICs and transistors as well.

I do perform board level repairs at $10
per hour and this CAN BE DONE
ECONOMICALLY BY POSTAL SERVICE.
CIRCUIT CARD REPAIRS: down
to the component level on older
solid state rigs is my specialty.

I can also repair QRP rigs/kits as
they often have components I have
the parts that I have on hand.
Some entertainment units such as Stereo Amplifiers
and Preamps or radios..I can work on as well. -- If I
have the parts and I feel it is fixable.

You can email me ve3ab@rac.ca
NOTE: I do travel Elliot Lake to Ottawa via hiway 17
from time to time.

We could meet at Sudbury (the new Walmart just off
the hiway a good spot)..North Bay..Tim Hortons is
just off the hiway.. Espanola..I always stop at Tim
Hortons for a coffee and likewise in Deep River on the
way to Pembrooke.

I can look at your item in the parking lot and if I feel I
can fix it and I have the parts (older solid state
parts..60s, 70s and 80s) then I will take the item for
repair. My $10 per hour bench rate is quite reasonable.

I BUY ITEMS AS WELL FOR PARTS OR
RESTORATION and I can give FREE assessments on
your electronics especially vintage.

For VINTAGE Radios and electronics..we can do it by
email photos as well.

Cheers..Earl Andrews VE3AB
(retired from Civil Service but still extending
service)--- its a retirement activity more than a
business at this juncture.
Above: a rather rare item..an AMTRON 144 to 27 mhz converter. I picked it up at a
flea market a few years back for $5 with manual and schematics.

An item like this can often be repaired for $25 labour charge (at my $10/hr rate) and
$10 or $20 in parts.

In this case..the dual gate mosfets needed to be replaced. The crystal was fine.
IF THE CRYSTAL was defective..I would have to order a new crystal and they can
get a bit pricey ..cost low end $15 cost high end about $27 or so ..depends on the
crystal.

Items about this SIZE and smaller radios like Atlas 210X, HW7,8, 9 or other qrp rigs
can be sent back and forth in the mail and it can be economically done.

RIGS SUCH AS THE K2, K3 FT817 or high density modern rigs from the late 90s to
present are too complex and have too many unique non interchangeable parts and
I dont work on them.
My good used _ tested in circuit_ pulled parts,
subassemblies, right down to the component level. I can
pull parts from rigs and test them.
If its gathering dust
and cluttering up
your basement or
garage..I can take it
off your hands and
either fix it or
disassemble it for
parts.
People all over the
world email for
older solid state
parts from time to
time!
Earls good used pulled
parts for older radios.
www.hamelectronicsmagazine.com  -- AN ON GOING SERVICE TO HAMS. ve3ab@rac.ca
Above: Bathtub curve. For FT301 and Atlas 210x we are in the wearout stage.
Common problems: wafer switch worn connections, circuit boards over time and
with temp cycles cause solder joint failures. I find this happens frequently in
FT301. Ft301 also crystal failure common now.
Unfortunately..my supply of crystals
for the FT301 is really drying up!!
Parted OUT rigs as per listing below:
While working for over 18 years in the NATO cataloguing
and LIFE CYCLE MANAGEMENT division of National
Defence (near Ottawa Canada) I learned a great deal about
the parts and standardization and interchangeablity and
subsitutes and alternate item devices ect. -- I can find
alternate items or good substitutes in my now HOBBY
BUSINESS. Feel free to ask me questions. I answer freely.
This FT301D had a bad display. The TIL 306s and TIL 308s burn out with time. Heat is the
big enemy. I built the AADE display kit and it works great. All I have to do now is a few
finishing touches to the front panel to make it look a little better. The FT301 is in use
almost daily at VE3AB.
Building the kit was the easy part. The hard part was the physical modifications
necessary to mount the AADE display circuit board and liquid crystal display to the front
panel. --- Took a bit of time and effort but it was worth it.

I can help you out..by building kits for you at my $10 per hour bench rate. Just email me
for ideas and a free quote.

THE ATLAS 210X OR 215 and other older rigs including old tube receivers can benefit
from the new technology. AADE sells kits for many older radios. An external display is
another option.

Im thinking of an external display for my Hammarlund HQ180AC. AADE has a probe to
couple to one of the tubes to get enough energy to drive the display. Thats the way to
go in some cases.
I do some repairs for people. Repairs that don't involve
complex alignments requiring good test equipment or a
great deal of mechanical work. -- Basic fixes in other
words. My $10 an hour bench rate makes it
worth-while to fix that old piece of gear.
Above some of the broken old rigs I bought
at flea markets for $25 each and less. Good
for parts and/or fix up.
I'm looking to buy more rigs for fix up or parting out to other hams.
