I have the LEAF CHANNEL on cable (when I was in Ottawa..the Sens would not let me subscribe to the Leaf channel! When the leafs fall in the spring..I have been cheering for the Senators. Last year I really got into it! Too bad it didn't turn out a little better!! |
| MY WIFE (pictured here) used to work in the electronics manufacturing industry. Her job went over to China! Over there the bonders make 75 cents per hour. She works for me for nothing the odd time. Here it is just like old times when she used to be in testing. I used to work at this place called Foundation Instrument. It was in the west end of Ottawa. There I used to build prototypes and test them for the Engineers. It was one of my favourite jobs. The engineer would hand me a schematic and I would go find the parts, build the circuit, trouble shoot as required-- NOTE: sometimes the engineer made a mistake and had to correct his design. IF YOU HAVE WORK LIKE THAT FOR ME TO DO..I would be pleased to take it on. Small tasks only. I have enough things of my own to do. My shop rate for hobby stuff is $10 per hour. | Even the bears up here in Elliot Lake are friendly. I think my neighbour was out fishing!! This bear was in our neighbourhood last spring. I watched him from a safe distance and took some pics. He was not agressive at all ..but he did act like he was quite at home walking down the street and going into peoples yards. He sniffed some doors. Up here..we use bear proof garbage cans. I freeze my left over meat/fish in the freezer in a small bag and then curb it frozen. I HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS! By the same token, however..I wasn't about to go up to this bear and pet him or her. I kept a safe distance. We did look at each other from about a 50 ft distance. Apparently, making eye contact can be taken as a challenge in the animal world. | I NOW HAVE .....VIRTUALLY... UNLIMITED WEB SPACE and Bandwidth with my new Web plan -- (I have a Yahoo small business Account) - I have just started adding video to my site. I bought a Canon 8 Megapixel Digital Camera for shooting much better quality images (both still and little movie clips) NOTE: the movie clips take a while to load depending on the internet connection and your computer capabilities. |

| I took early retirement from my main occupation in the Federal Government near Ottawa. I was in the spare parts (electronics components) business. I would catalogue spare components in the NATOdata base. I later helped with the purchase of components that were becoming obsolete and scarce. LATER ON I WAS DOING A-LOT OF KEYPUNCHING AND NON TECHNICAL WORK..SO I TOOK EARLY RETIREMENT! TOOK MY BENEFITS AND PENSION UP HERE TO ELLIOT LAKE ONTARIO WHERE IT WOULD BE A TRUE CIVIL SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY and my country as well. I'd like to think that I have made some small but significant little improvement to this fine little place. I HAVE MET MANY NICE PEOPLE UP HERE. We really needed to all pull together in order to make this town a good place to live and work. I find there is a true sense of community up here and I sure hope it continues on. Elliot Lake went bust in the mid nineties when the Uranium mines around here closed. The towns infrastructure is only about 50 years old and it is a nice town/little city. Now it has really rebounded nicely. A great area for outdoors and lots of retired people..including a large socially active ham radio club. april 20th 2008- A brand spanking new modern supermarket opened here this past week. To see some photos..(CLICK HERE)..LINK TO BE DEVELOPED VY SOON. my RADIO AND ELECTRONICS PARTS BASEMENT SUPPLY BUSINESS..(It helps subsidize my Electronics Addiction) (I spend about 90% more than I earn!!) THE PARTS I SELL ( the few I have been selling)..help pay for my hobby expenses! I am looking towards the possibility of a small home run mail order business selling parts to electronics hobbyists without any minimum order and without a lot of handling costs. Time will tell whether there is enough demand for this kind of small parts order business. I will also be setting up some jigs and benches especially for repair and alignment of radio equipment. I now have a spectrum analyser, good 100 mhz oscilloscope, sweep generator and I'm building some specific test jigs to do the jobs I have lined up. I have about 10 broken radios of my own to repair for a kickoff! I bought these old broken radios at flea markets and hope to get into the swing of repair. If I get good at it..I may make this my primary business and service focus. up UNTIL NOW..I HAVE BEEN DOING ONLY A FEW REPAIRS FOR PEOPLE HERE and there. Sometimes ..I can solve the problem right over the phone or by email. I have done that now several times. Once..the problem with the power supply not working was the fact that...the power supply was not coming on ..because..the ON/OFF SWITCH ON THE POWER SUPPLY does not in fact turn the power supply on and off!!! The power supply has to be plugged into the radio and the radio ON/OFF SWITCH has to be on as well..then the power supply will work. ----SOMETIMES TALKING TO ME..I CAN SOLVE PROBLEMS..and at times..I have not even charged for my advice. I BUY PARTS and I take apart broken radios to pull good parts. I recently sent out an old rare hard to get part to a fellow in the Canary Islands. He was very pleased that the part worked (it was date stamped 1976). | Here I am packing an order. When I ship these small little parts orders..I pack them in padded envelopes. As long as they are less than about 5/8 inch thick..the postage is very reasonable..usually $2 or so. I have been recently given a whole whack of stuff from estates and people who are cleaning out their basements. I will be attending various ham swap meets to barter/swap and I will be selling off excess at this web site. If you happen to need a few small parts to build a little qrp transmitter or a test jig ..I may happen to have what you need. Some of my stuff is old...(some of my stuff is JUNK! !but I have some new old surplus modern components as well..such as surface mount low noise MMICs. | I bought this AVG in a box from Walmart. It cost about $60 or so. It is for 2 years coverage. So far..I have found it works well and my computer seems to be running better than with the other product I had previously used. |
