When I first got my ham ticket
back in the fall of 1972, I used to
operate CW and collect qsl
cards and all that..but now..the
novelty has worn off and I
concentrate on things technical.
I'm semi retired now. I used to
work for the Federal
Government in Ottawa area.
They sort of got away from the
technical side of things where I
used to work as a civilian. I
became more like a key puncher
or data entry clerk and I actually
took that as quite an insult to all
the training and hard work and
dedication I put into the
engineering side of things.
I watched a show on TV today
where a blind man was working
for the Feds up in the North
West Territories. He too was in a
good paying job but he walked
away from it to do some farming.
Pictured to the left..a preselector
circuit I was trying, the argonaut
509 PTO that I cleaned up (was
seized) and got going again); an
old and abused FT301SD that
someone gave me. I did some
repairs on it.
A mod I did to the qrp index one.
I had to replace the sbl 1 mixer
and I made some brass tubing
pin sockets and made a socket
for the sbl 1 mixer (in case it
ever gets damaged again). I also
put in some protective diodes
(the blue heatshrink covers the
leads).
my phone number up here in
Elliot Lake Ontario is
705-848-9486.

I do stock alot of new surplus parts and spares for qrp
rigs.
I sell my parts a few here and a few there to hams
(mostly) who are working on projects.
OF COURSE..I KEEP ALOT OF PARTS FOR
MYSELF.
I SWAP PARTS AS WELL. If you need something....>>

I have started a new page(s) about vintage solid state radio repair, restoration and mods.
FEATURES AN FT301SD QRP

VE3AB HAM RADIO PAGES
(LOTS OF PROJECT IDEAS
PICTURES AND ANTENNA NOTES)
Topics of Interest with links to the pages involved (my web site is big and
getting bigger!!! I now have U N L I M I T E D BANDWIDTH AND WEB STORAGE
For my TGM mini hybrid quad pages..lots of good ideas and pictures and theory of operation
CLICK HERE ( 3 PAGES TOTAL)
FOR MY GENERAL INFORMATION AND IDEAS PAGES ON ANTENNAS..5 PAGES TOTAL (and I will be
adding more this spring)...(note: I live on a city lot and have a 28 ft tower and mini beam) I use qrp or 50
watts and take a minimalist approach to radio operation)-- HEY ITS A GREAT HOBBY..YOU DON'T NEED
TO CLOBBER THE COMPETITION. CURRENTLY (SPRING 2008) I am working on a vertical for the low
bands that will work fairly good and does not require a big ground system. (its being developed)

TEN TEC ARGONAUT PAGES...I bought my first Argonaut (a 505) back in late 1974 or sometime in 75.
Anyways..I was into the QRP thing by then. I had worked quite a few qrp stations and enjoyed the weak
signal work and the technical side of things. I subscribed to the Milliwatt and operated qrp FD ect.
My main rig is still an Argonaut. The model 515. I also have the 405 amplifier. Click here to go visit my
Argonaut Pages..note... April 2008..I have been working on my 505 on the bench lately.
HOMEBREW PROJECTS -- LINK TO BE ESTABLISHED SOON. I am fixing up these
pages to get them all under one roof and properly organized and structured.
I am working on quite a few things both homebrew and fixing up qrp rigs.
I'm working on HW7s, Argonauts, a DDS vfo (I just finished soldering the little Analog Devices chip on the board
(MARCH 08); a 9 mhz IF superheterodyne receiver (currently Ive set it aside for awhile); a few crystal checker
circuits (I have one built and working on the bench).
I also just got a commercial spectrum analyser and I'm learning how to run it. Put my argonaut 509 on the thing the
other day to see how the spurs were.
MY HAM RADIO BUILDERS SWAP SHOP. MOSTLY..it will be my stuff that I am flogging or want to trade ect.
Might expand it to other hams to use as well. I'm working out the details.
I do have about 5 pages or so of pictures of JUNK in my JUNK BOX..ie surplus ICs, crystals, junker radios,
surplus bits and pieces....You are welcome to have a look if you like..link removed (temporarily)..March 29/08
I'll be rebuilding it soon
I HAVE HAD A BIG BUNCH
OF CRYSTALS GIVEN TO
ME LATELY. IN ORDER TO
TEST THEM..I BUILT UP
THIS LITTLE OSCILLATOR
CIRCUIT ON A CIRCUIT
BOARD. It worked quite well
and I'm going to build up
another circuit or two to
switch in different
configurations of parallel
and series capacitances ect.
If you need some crystals I
may have what you need.
I'M IN HEAVEN WHEN I WORK AT STUFF LIKE THIS! EVERYTHING IS SO LOGICAL AND
PURELY SCIENTIFIC IN NATURE. I am thoroughly convinced that if the world was run like
this..we would all be far far better off! Maybe thats why I got into this in the first place!
VINTAGE RADIO REPAIR.. I work on tube stuff sometimes and here are some pages about a project I am
working on. This old Sears Radio from the 1930s used to belong to my uncle Will. I used to listen to hams
on AM (80 meters mostly) back in the late sixties and early seventies. Remember W3CIC?? He had a real
nice AM signal. Click here to go to that page.
I SELL THE ODD ELECTRONIC COMPONENT OR TWO..very inexpensive. I sell mainly to hams who need a part or two to fix/build a radio or radio accessory.
